{"id":684,"date":"2020-12-18T12:34:35","date_gmt":"2020-12-18T17:34:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.adelphi.edu\/international-services\/?page_id=684"},"modified":"2025-04-08T13:43:01","modified_gmt":"2025-04-08T17:43:01","slug":"program-extension","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.adelphi.edu\/international-services\/current-students\/program-extension\/","title":{"rendered":"Program Extension"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If a student is unable to complete their degree by the program end date listed on their Form I-20, they may be eligible to request a program extension via the <a href=\"https:\/\/adelphi-isss.terradotta.com\/index.cfm?FuseAction=Security.AngLogin\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">International Services Portal<\/a>. A Designated School Official (DSO) may authorize an extension if the student has continuously maintained F-1 status and the delay in completion is due to compelling academic or medical circumstances, such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A change of major or research topic<\/li>\n<li>Unexpected research problems<\/li>\n<li>Documented medical conditions<\/li>\n<li>Other Academic Reasons<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Eligibility to Extend F-1 Status<\/h2>\n<p>An F-1 student may be eligible to apply for an extension of their program if all of the following conditions are met:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The student submits a request for program extension to their Designated School Official (DSO) before the program end date listed on their current Form I-20;<\/li>\n<li>The student is making normal academic progress;<\/li>\n<li>The student has maintained valid F-1 status continuously;<\/li>\n<li>The delay in program completion is due to compelling academic or medical reasons;<\/li>\n<li>The delay is not due to academic probation, suspension, or disciplinary actions;<\/li>\n<li>The student\u2019s academic advisor provides a recommendation supporting the request for program extension.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>How to Request a Program Extension<\/h2>\n<p>The student must submit a request for a program extension via the <a href=\"https:\/\/adelphi-isss.terradotta.com\/index.cfm?FuseAction=Security.AngLogin\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">International Services Portal<\/a> at least weeks prior to the program end date listed on their Form I-20.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If a student is unable to complete their degree by the program end date listed on their Form I-20, they may be eligible to request a program extension via the International Services Portal.
